Song Preludes

Sorry for the long break immediately after our first post. Both of us got very busy at work (and the internet connection in my(Hemanth) new house is yet to come live)..

While we still are seriously debating and collecting information about our next few songs, off beat I wanted to add this post ..

I believe Illayaraja has a lot of song preludes to his credit. Those lines that do not form part of the main song but give the song a character.. Two of our best liked preludes are here. What would be yours ?

If I remember correctly, in Mudhal Mariyaadhai, there was this yesa paatu as a prelude just before "பூங்காற்று திரும்புமா".. and what a prelude it was !

What could be the first song? It should be a song that would be a fitting introduction to the musical genius and to the one year of songs we would have on this blog.Vijay and I debated this for a while and unanimously settled for this song.

There was this pensive lyricst waiting at the recording room for his first song to be recorded. A solo by S P Balasubramanyam. SPB took five takes to get the first line going - no luck. "Sixth take - fix it" said SPB and went on with the take which even today millions of tamils drool on listening to those lines...

Vijay and I (Hemanth) wanted to collect our favourite 365 sing-along songs composed by Illayaraja . One song a day for an entire year.

We are in the process of short-listing them. Will be up with the first few very soon. We have chosen those songs that are primarily love-song based in the 70s and the 80s and those few rare gems from the 90s..
